This week’s launch of the new iPad Mini was the latest in a long string of product successes for Apple, but it hasn’t always been so.

Here are five Apple product launches that failed to reach orbit, proving that even the product development and marketing geniuses at Apple are fallible.

Or, at least, they once were.

  1. Hate to say it, but I think there are some failures to come for Apple. I perceive a “tipping point” with the launch of iPhone 5. Two quarters of earnings misses, lower-than-expected sales of iPhone 5, management upheaval (two key positions turning over), an interface that is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth, more distance from the Jobs “halo effect”, and a huge challenge in the “how-do-we-change-the-world-next?” department. Like all bubbles, Apple’s can’t realistically go on forever. Right?
