It’s small comfort to the original victims, but security experts now realize there was such a thing as a “good old days” of distributed denial of service attacks.

In this next installment of our video conversation with Allstream’s Craig Deveau, Dr. Jose Navario of Arbor Networks reflects on the evolution of DDoS beyond application-layer attacks.

“Now it’s (a situation where attackers) find a flaw on the server-side software, (and) have your zombies or bots fling attack code at it,” he says. “Only a handful of those attacks need to get through and they’ll crash the server.”
