The Truth About Data Loss

It seems like, every day, a major data breach makes headlines and new reports present conflicting research on data loss. McAfee’s new white paper, “Data Loss by the Numbers”, reveals the findings of an in-depth analysis of 386 data breaches. According to the investigation:

  • External attacks accounted for 52% of the breaches, while malicious insiders had the largest average number of compromised records per breach at 72,325.
  • Retailers, universities and healthcare providers reported the highest number of attacks
  • The federal government, K-12 schools and the industry sector reported the lowest number of attacks.
