Business continuity and disaster management professionals gathered in Toronto last week to attend the World Conference on Disaster Management (WCDM), a tradeshow and symposium of keynote speakers, seminars and mentoring sessions. The theme of this year’s conference, “Global Threats, Local Consequences: Doing More With Less,” focused on the need for organizations to better manage their security and emergency preparedness strategies while also keeping down costs in a challenging economy.

As part of the conference program, the Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness announced the winners of the Canadian Awards for Emergency Management and Business Continuity at the WCDM Gala. This year the Business Continuity Award was given to Allstream’s own Vito Mangialardi, Director of Business Continuity Management, MTS Allstream, while the Emergency Management Award went to Marion Boon, Coordinator, Emergency Management Program, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

The awards recognize professionals “who have made extraordinary contributions to emergency management or business continuity in Canada.”
